Cold and Flu’s can affect anybody at anytime of the year. They do seem more pronounced in winter time. They make us feel miserable and the symptoms can be very debilitating and uncomfortable indeed. But it’s not so hard to treat these naturally. We may not be able to cure the common cold but we can ease the congestion, headaches and breathing difficulties associated with it.
The first thing may seem obvious but prevention is better than cure. Keep your body fit to fight away the viral infections by eating well and staying healthy. Garlic and Vitamin C have fantastic prevention properties. But if you do end up with a virus you can’t shake, treat your symptoms and you will feel a lot better and perhaps stop it developing into something more serious like a chest infection. Of course do consult your doctor for any prolonged symptoms.
Inhaling is the best way to clear nasal and chest congestion and ease headaches. You can buy machines to which you add eucalyptus oil to disperse in steam into the air. Or simply use a towel to cover your head while you lean over a bowl of boiling water and the oils. Vitamin C is found in high quantities in Citrus fruits and certainly lemon juice will have an immediate effect on a sore throat. Honey has many natural healing properties as well and will also soothe a sore throat. Anything menthol based will help to decongest and stop coughing. Sipping herbal teas will help relax as well.
