Sauna and Spa–Simply Relaxation or Something More?

Relieving stress is the the reason we dream over taking a sauna and laying back in a spa. Soothing our aching bodies, taking some ‘me time’, and we really do deserve to spoil ourselves. Sauna and spa’s date back to ancient civilizations in some form or another. So what are the health benefits of steam and hot bubbling jets of water on our bodies?

Spas–These are becoming increasingly more attainable in homes but there is nothing like going out hot tubbing for the day. These date back to Roman times who were famous for their hot baths. The Chinese and Japanese also used spa-type of hot baths. Hot water relaxes the body. It open the pores of the skin for cleansing and also allows beneficial herbs, mineral and oils to penetrate the body. The heated water is buoyant and supports our weight taking strain of our skeletal frame. The hydrotherapy hot tubs of today also massage the muscles and encourage movement. You can even use movement against the water jets as a good workout.

Saunas–the benefits of sweating has also been recognized since the ancient civilizations. Steam and sweating opens the pores and expunges impurities from beneath the skin. The reaction of the body to steam heat can stimulate the circulation and help to penetrate fatty deposits of cellulite. Calories are burned due to the increased heart rate and a 15-20 minute session can leave you feeling completely rejuvenated and with soft smooth skin.

So enjoy your time twice as much. Relax while getting healthier.
