Try Eating Organic Hemp Seeds

Hemp, the Country’s First Crop Returns

In farmers’ fields across the land grow plants
From which good purpose and profit stem
Like sturdy, fast growing stalks of hemp!

Once forgotten and shunned,
But now returned full force
Reaching to the sun
To be a service to all nations
For fabric, rope, building boards
And food – hemp seeds – and more
For a healthier world
And a healthier me and you.

As part of my breakfast, most mornings, I add a teaspoon and a half of organic hemp seeds to my cereal, oatmeal or egg dish for that day. Why? Because hemp seeds are good for me and for you, too.

Hemp seeds are highly nutritious and have gained popularity for their health benefits. Here are some key aspects of the nutritional value of hemp seeds:

  • Protein: Hemp seeds are a complete protein source, meaning they provide all nine essential amino acids that the human body cannot produce on its own. This makes them an excellent protein source for vegetarians and vegans.
  • Healthy Fats: Hemp seeds are rich in healthy fats, particularly omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These fats are essential for brain health, heart health, and overall well-being.
  • Fiber: Hemp seeds are a good source of both soluble and insoluble fiber, which can support digestive health and help regulate blood sugar levels.
  • Vitamins and Minerals: Hemp seeds contain various vitamins and minerals, including vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, and zinc.
  • Antioxidants: Hemp seeds contain antioxidants, which help protect the body from oxidative stress and inflammation.
  • Easy to Digest: The proteins in hemp seeds are easily digestible, and they are a suitable option for those with sensitive stomachs.
  • Low in Carbohydrates: Hemp seeds are relatively low in carbohydrates, making them a good option for individuals following low-carb or ketogenic diets.
  • Versatility: Hemp seeds have a mild, nutty flavor and a soft texture, making them easy to incorporate into various dishes. They can be sprinkled on salads, added to smoothies, or used in baking.

Please note: While hemp seeds come from the same plant species as marijuana (Cannabis sativa), they contain only trace amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive compound in marijuana. As a result, consuming hemp seeds will not cause a “high.”

Hemp seeds can be a useful in the pursuit of a balanced diet and can contribute to overall health and nutritional well-being. However, as with any food, they play just a part in the whole spectrum of foods needed for a balanced, nutritional diet. If you have specific dietary concerns or health conditions, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian.
