How to Lower Your Blood Pressure Naturally

Lower Blood Pressure Naturally

Are you concerned about your blood pressure? It’s important to listen to your doctor and manage your blood pressure. Try these natural ways to lower your blood pressure; you may even be able to come off medication or avoid going on it altogether.

Spend time snuggling a pet. Studies show a lowering of blood pressure when a person spends time petting an animal each day. Scientists think the combination of the unconditional love and the physical act of holding and stroking something comforting combine to work as a powerful blood pressure reducer.

Hire a massage therapist. Getting a massage will slow your heart rate and lower your blood pressure. If that’s too pricey, consider getting a backrub from a friend or partner; this works well, too. To make the massage even more effective (for lowering blood pressure), massage in some lavender scented lotion.

Speaking of lavender, this scent has been scientifically proven to lower blood pressure. Diffuse lavender essential oil in your home or office. Use lavender hand lotion or body lotion (again, go with lavender essential oil – synthetic knock offs won’t have the same effect.)

Give yourself time alone each day to reflect and process your day. Lock yourself away from everyone and let yourself relax, focusing on your breathing and thinking only restful, positive thoughts.

Be physically affectionate with someone. Your blood pressure will sink when you spend time cuddling with someone. Cuddle up while watching a movie, or lower the household temperature and snuggle up as you go to sleep at night.

Keep an eye out for changes you can make in your life situation that may lower your stress. If you can point to a particular stressor that is probably somewhat responsible for your blood pressure problem look for ways to change the situation. Perhaps going back to school, switching jobs, hiring someone to babysit the kids so you can get away, or hiring help with your house or yard will help you.

Managing your blood pressure is important. Hopefully you’ll find ways to lower your blood pressure and keep it at a healthy level.
