Five Ways to Eat Fewer Calories

Eat Fewer Calories

Trying to diet? Are you having trouble defeating your bad eating habits? Try these painless tricks for eating less without even noticing.

Buy smaller plates. If you serve meals on big plates, use plates that have a wide decorative brim, so you’ll only put food in the smaller inner part of the plate.

Your portions will look bigger, making you serve yourself less food. You can do the same thing with bowls. Choose elegant or fun dishes that will make your smaller serving of ice cream feel more generous than the serving actually is.

Use tall, slim glasses for drinks. The tall glass acts as an optical illusion, making you think you’ve poured more than you have. Use low or no calorie garnishes (mint, lemon, lime, berries) to dress up your drinks, and use a low or no calorie beverage. image

Eat only at the table. Make yourself set the table and sit down every time you eat and you’ll cut calories without realizing it. Much of our overindulgence happens mindlessly as we eat, while watching television or surfing the internet or put away leftovers.

Squeeze vegetables into recipes every chance you get. If you have a recipe that calls for all meat, cheese, and starches, add in a complimentary vegetable or two to add color, flavor, and fiber. Try adding spinach and artichokes to lasagna and broccoli or green beans into casseroles. You’ll improve the taste, texture, and nutritional value of the meal while reducing calories per serving.

Help yourself develop a disliking for unhealthy foods. Rent “Supersize Me”, and conjure up unpleasant parts of the movie, when you’re tempted to eat fast food.

Have a soft spot for hot dogs? Once you learn what those are made from, you may be able to resist them. Do your best to reinforce positive feelings about healthy foods, and encourage negative feelings about junk food.

Hopefully these pointers will help you eat fewer calories and shed pounds.
