Today, there are many nutritional supplements that are widely available for health–boosting purposes. Two of the most commonly sought after supplements are for organ or system function improvement and beauty enhancement use. Luckily, these two benefits can be acquired in one supplement. This powerful supplement comes in the form of Glutathione.

Primarily, glutathione has a potent liver–protecting property and aids the liver in detoxifying harmful chemicals inside the body. Another advantage of glutathione is that it helps give you healthy, glowing skin.

Glutathione is a micromolecule composed of three small proteins known as the L – cysteine, L – glutamic acid and the glycine bound to sulfur. As we know, proteins are the building blocks of cells and tissues, thus, glutathione promotes healthy cellular growth.

Additionally, the sulfur chemical group in this supplement has the ability to attach to body toxins and free radicals, therefore, facilitating elimination of wastes from the body.

Glutathione is a small yet powerful biological compound that can be found in almost all cells of the body. In fact, it is considered to be a cellular antioxidant. Experts believe that glutathione is one of the most significant antioxidant of the body because it is housed cellularly.

If the toxic load of the body is not that high, glutathione is typically recycled by the body. Glutathione is one the most abundant natural antioxidant of the body and at normal concentrations it lessens burden of the liver in detoxifying the body from harmful chemicals.

Found in every cell in the body, glutathione protects the cell’s engine, called the mitochondria, from bacteria and viruses as well as toxins. It’s considered the mother of all antioxidants.

One of the major roles of the liver is to detoxify harmful chemicals inside the body. Glutathione aids the liver in removing elements that are foreign or in abnormally high levels in the body such as free radicals, drugs and other pollutants. It can prevent the build up of oxidized fats and facilitate in the conversion of carbohydrates into energy.

Glutathione is also essential in protecting the liver cells from several environmental hazards such as excessive intake of alcohol and drugs, and toxins produced during biological metabolism occurring inside the body. More importantly, glutathione also works as a precursor to an enzyme called glutathione peroxidase. This vital enzyme protects that body against lipid peroxidation. This is the biological phenomenon in which body fats become harmful to cells.

Another major role for glutathione is that it is also required by the immune system to boost its function in preventing infections and illnesses. This complex micromolecule has a significant role in the production of lymphocytes. Lymphocytes are the cells that are responsible for mediating a specific immunity against a specific antigen. Lymphocytes are important in the development of a strong and effective immune response.

Sources of glutathione include fruit and vegetables such as strawberries, tomato, watermelon, asparagus, avocado, cantaloupe, broccoli, and cabbage. Cauliflower and parsley are other vegetables that contain glutathione in high amount. Glutathione also comes in supplements form such as pills and capsules. However, experts suggest that it maybe better to take the precursors which include N-acetylcysteine (NAC), alpha-lipoic acid, glutamine and methionine.

Glutathione as well as the other above listed supplements are available at your local or internet vitamin store. Always choose name brands like Source Naturals to ensure quality and purity of the product you buy for better health.
