Aromatherapy and Skin Rejuvenation

The body’s largest organ is the skin. It keeps all of the other important body parts in check, and is our barrier to the world. The skin is an amazing creation, when it gets cut; it heals itself, and is constantly renewing itself with cell regeneration daily. As we age however, the properties that made our skin a miraculous work of art, begins to slow down, and our skin begins to show signs of wear and tear. For women, one of the most often complained about skin conditions are stretch marks. These are tiny scars in the underlying tissues of the skin, caused to sudden rapid weight gain or weight loss. Pregnant women aren’t the only ones to succumb to these unsightly tears either. Weightlifters, dieters, and anyone who has had a sudden weight gain or loss may bear the record of their transformation in their skin.

As the body ages, skin begins to lose the resiliency and elasticity that it once had. This causes wrinkling in various parts of the skin that are under continuous use. Examples of these areas are the “laugh lines” or the smile lines, Crows feet, and the forehead area.

Aside from scarring and wrinkling, some people are prone to having dry, oily, or sensitive skin. For those with dry skin, they may continually suffer from itchiness, flakiness, or areas that are chapped. Oily skin may contribute to frequent breakouts as well as a feeling that one may need to continually wash their face. Sensitive skin may be prone to redness, irritation, and frequently break out in allergic type reactions.

There are a host of other skin ailments that can make life unbearable for the sufferer. Some of these include Eczema, Psoriasis, or frequent painful boils which may be caused by an underlying Staph infection under the skin.

There are certain steps that people can take to ensure the health, vitality, and beauty of their skin. The first area one needs to look at when considering skin health is diet and exercise. Proper diet for the skin includes eating rich organic foods, staying away from refined flours and sugar, and drinking plenty of mineral rich water daily. Exercise may not be more than a daily brisk walk for 20 minutes, but at the least, this is enough exercise to keep the body functioning properly.

Aromatherapy also offers many benefits to those who are actively seeking remedies for skin conditions and looking for ways to repair or rejuvenate their skin. Because the skin consists of many pores, Aromatherapy is one of the most effective ways to treat skin conditions. Using steam, baths, and vapors, the skin will absorb the properties of your selected herbs immediately.

Treatment for skin conditions using Aromatherapy includes taking aromatic baths, drinking and soaking in herbal infusions, applying Aromatherapy creams and lotions, and using herbal toners. Some of the most effective herbs for skin rejuvenation include Rosehip, Calendula, Orange and other Citrus oils, Almond and Macadamia Nut oil, Horsetail, Shea Butter, Rosemary, Lavender, Ylang Ylang, and Aloe Vera.
