Anti Virus Aromatherapy

Today’s world is full of sickness and disease. The fear of Bird Flu is prevalent and the devasting effect of HIV has continued to ravage nations worldwide. It isn’t just the heavyweight viruses that we have to look out for either. Even viruses that we have been familiar with for the past 100 years may still pose devasting consequences for those who have depressed immune systems.

Antiviral drugs are very important in the fight against viruses. Antiviral medications are similar to antibiotics however they are specifically targeted towards the destruction of viruses. Antiviral medication is an essential weapon in the fight against HIV. There are also antiviral medications that have been successfully used against Herpes Virus, Hepatitis B and C, and other viruses. The field of antiviral medicine is constantly exploring new methods and procedures in the hopes of creating medicines that will effectively conquer other viruses.

Due to the prevalence of HIV and the widespread devastation of this virus, a large amount of money, power, and influence has been put upon scientific research to develop effective medications to help inhibit the spread, growth, and replication of HIV. This research has opened the door to many new antiviral medications that are believed to have far reaching benefits beyond the treatment of HIV.

As science continues to research and develop more antiviral drugs, we can only wonder what the future will hold. Many of the immunizations that have been prevalent over the past century have been in attempts to ward off massive outbreaks of viral based diseases that had the potential to cripple, maim, and kill. Many people find the field of immunology to have many controversies, and often people today are choosing not to immunize their children. It may be that one day, antiviral medications will surface that can stop Polio or Rubella as soon as it appears, making the need for an immunization a preference of choice, not the standard for all people.

It is also important to realize that antiviral medication has only been in existence for the past 20 years. It is still essentially in an experimental form. However, the signs look increasingly promising for the future. People who have been diagnosed with HIV are living longer and are having more success with these new medications then when HIV first made its appearance on a grand scale in the 1980’s. One day, we may see an antiviral medication for all viruses readily available for all citizens.

Aromatherapy can help fight viral infections due to the fact that many plants and herbs have natural viral fighting properties. Some of the most common herbs that have natural antiviral properties include: Barberry, Beth Root, Black Walnut, Buchu, Echinacea, Garlic, Goldenseal, Chaparral, Juniper Berry, Myrrh, Nettle, Plantain, Rosemary, White Oak, Thyme, Saw Palmetto, and Oregon Grape Root. These herbs also carry antibiotic an antiseptic properties as well.

It is important to boost the immune system through nutrition and aromatherapy as well. Your Immune System is your first line of defense to fight viruses and to stop them in their tracks. You can encourage your Immune System with herbs such as Echinacea, Garlic, and Thyme.

Tea Tree, Ravensara, and Cedar are powerful herbs that all have antiviral properties as well. Whenever you are using an essential oil in Aromatherapy, be sure to follow all safety precautions and use the oil in diluted form.
