Antioxidants-What are they?

Antioxidants are heralded for their healing properties. They eliminate the toxins caused by free radicals from the chemical reactions in the cells. The secret to anything running well is preventative maintenance. Cars need regular services so they don’t break down and to keep a healthy body we benefit from using that type of system. Don’t wait until it breaks down to fix it.

The molecules that are antioxidants acts to slow down and in some cases prevent the oxidation which attack our cells. Not only can antioxidants help to keep cells healthy, they can help heal damaged cells caused through stroke, and aid in prevention of cancer and many other diseases. The jury is still out in whether supplements are all that beneficial as the body may need the tiniest amounts and it is easy to overload. The best way is to eat the antioxidant rich foods, which have other health and nutritional value, and let the body source what it needs from that.

Cells continually die and regenerate in our bodies and the dead cells are expelled. When the dead cells don’t get expelled but build up in the body is how cancer begins. So having a good diet of antioxidants to rid cells of imperfections can make a huge difference to developing cancer. Good sources of Antioxidants are:

Berries
Fruits
Chocolate
Vegetable Oils
Tea
Soy
Red Wine

By dealing with the free radicals in the system the body is able to absorb of the nutrient value of foods.
