The obesity epidemic threatens to engulf this country. People are paying big bucks for surgeries to reduce the sizes of their stomachs and going on extreme diets only to gain the weight back once they are off of them.

These measures are not productive and will not help alleviate the problems that obesity is causing. One of the many bi-products of the obesity epidemic is the increase in Diabetes Type 2.

Obesity and Diabetes go hand in hand. While there is nothing you can do to prevent Type 1 Diabetes, you can keep Type 2 Diabetes from occurring. If you are obese or overweight, now is the time to start working towards losing some pounds. You do not want to have to live with Diabetes and all of the complications and responsibilities that come with it. Take charge of your health now.

Diabetes is spreading at an alarming rate throughout the world. The disease which is characterized by the body’s cells inability to absorb glucose from blood is becoming one of the most common ailments in the United States.

Tissue gets wasted by cells due to blockage of glucose and the cells are forced to eat their own internal proteins. Diabetes can lead to a number of debilitating disorders. Obese individuals run a higher risk of acquiring Diabetes than others do.


For anyone who is not convinced that there is a link between Diabetes and obesity needs to look at the facts.

About 80% of individuals that get Type 2 Diabetes are obese. If your Body Mass Index is over 30 you may be considered obese. If you fall in the BMI range of 25-30 you are considered overweight. Being overweight places you in category that runs a higher risk of getting various cancers, heart disease, gallstones, gestational diabetes and prostrate enlargement in addition to Type 2 Diabetes.

The research surrounding the effects of weight on individuals that already have Diabetes also shows what a major factor weight plays in the disease. When Diabetics lose weight after changing their lifestyles blood glucose levels and HbA1c decrease in Type 2 Diabetes.

When abdominal fat was reduced in overweight people glucose tolerance gets better.
For those that do not believe there is a correlation between exercise and Diabetes, glucose tolerance improves with cardio workouts. The effects of nerve damage can also be helped with some physical activity.

The best way to fight Diabetes is to not get it. You do not want to contract this disease simply because you were not willing to make a few easy lifestyle changes.

If you think that taking a few steps to change your life is too much, think about how annoying it will be to inject yourself with insulin everyday. Or lose feeling in your limbs as you get older. Think about what it would be like if Diabetes stole your sight. Surely these scenarios should motivate you to get up off of the couch and stop eating unhealthy refined carbohydrates.
