Essential Oils to Treat Acne

Have you tried every acne treatment that you could get your hands on, both over the counter, and pharmaceutical but had no success at treating your acne? Are you just thoroughly fed up with your acne? If you feel like you have tried everything and still haven’t gotten the results that you want then maybe it is time you tried a natural acne treatment such as essential oils. Natural acne treatments consist up organic, or natural products that don’t contain chemicals or additives that can actually harm your skin.  Organic products are better for your skin because they don’t contain harsh chemicals that can hurt or dehydrate your skin. Natural remedies that use fruits, vegetables or extracts from plants and herbs are better for the body because they are grown from the earth and contain phytochemicals that are great for our health. These products normally have medicinal qualities that act like an anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, antiseptic or analgesic. Not only will it promote healthy skin but also it will clean and clear up any sign of acne. Now is the time to try essential oils to treat and cure your acne.

Essential oils are extracts that are derived from plants and herbs. They contain not only the smell but also the essence of the plant that they came from. This could be their medicinal quality, their calming effect or even their ability to revive your skin cells. Essential oils are very effective at treating acne because they are easily absorbed into the skin, they kill acne causing bacteria, dissolve sebum that causes blockages in the follicle but maintains the integrity of the skin. Essential oils can give you back your self-confidence as well as your beautiful, acne free skin. Essential oils don’t have any side effects if used properly and will heal acne scars and unwanted blemishes. Most essential oils can be mixed with other creams or lotions and can be used for spot treatments. Essential oils are growing in popularity and can be found at any local natural food store, vitamin shop, organic markets or even Whole Foods.

Some of the essential oils that help to reduce, treat and cure acne include rosewood, jojoba, bergamot, clove, lavender and tea tree oil. To use an essential oil you first want to dilute it because direct contact with the skin can cause irritation. Add 15-30 drops of the essential oil you choose into a carrier oil such as grape-seed oil, almond oil, canola oil, mineral oil, or olive oil. Once added to the carrier oil mixed thoroughly and apply to the areas affected by acne. Application should consist of a minimum of 3 times a day until the acne clears up. You may continue to apply the essential oil daily to maintain a radiant and glowing complexion and reduce the risk of reoccurrence. Otherwise reapply as a spot treatment when needed. Here is a list of essential oils that can be used to treat acne. In addition Manuka, Helichrysum, spike lavender, thyme linalool, rose geranium, Petitgrain, grapefruit, sandalwood, Vetiver, mints, basil, German chamomile, atlas Cedarwood, Palma Rosa, thyme, Cajeput, Niaouli and Yarrow Hydrosol oil are all useful in treating skin conditions.

 

Rosewood Oil– Rosewood oil is excellent for people with oily skin and should not be used for dry or sensitive skin types. It reduces the sebum that blocks the hair follicle when applied topically. It also reduces the frequency of breakouts. Rosewood oil is great if used as a spot treatment throughout the day to reduce oil or oily complexion.

 

Lavender Oil– Lavender oil is great for almost any use. It is a powerful antiseptic, antibacterial and anti inflammatory, as well as having a soothing and calming effect. Lavender oil combats acne, eczema, oily skin, spots and redness and itching that is associated with inflammation caused by acne. It also can be used to prevent acne and future breakouts.

 

Tea Tree Oil– Tea tree oil is a great antibacterial that kills acne causing bacteria. It also speeds up the healing process of wounds by enhancing scar tissue formation. Tea tree oil should only be applied topically. It acts fast by clearing up the skin and calming the affected area.

 

Clove Oil-Clove oil is a potent purifying agent. It acts very quickly to treat emerging or existing acne. It also removes infection and acts as a pain reliever.

 

Jojoba Oil– Jojoba oil is ideal for all types of skin and can be used as a moisturizer due to its rich structure. It has strong antioxidant qualities, which give it the ability to fight acne. When massaged into the skin it dissolves clogged pores and embedded dirt and grime.

 

Bergamot Oil– Bergamot is a great antiseptic and has antibacterial properties as well. It kills bacteria the can cause acne and reduces infection in the skin. It has a very pleasing and calming fragrance.
